This song is based on a true story of Aşık Arap Mustafa who lives in Çiçekdağı / KIRŞEHİR – TURKIYE in1901. Zahidem was composed by Neşet ERTAŞ, Great Poet and Tezene of Anatolia.
Zahide kurbanım n’olacak halim
Gene bir laf duydum kırıldı belim
Gelenden gidene haber sorayım
Zahide bu hafta oluyor gelin
Hezeli de deli gönül hezeli
Çiçekdağı da döktüm’ola gazeli
Dolaştım alemi gurbet gezeli
Bulamadım Zahidem’den güzeli
Gurbet ellerinde esirim esir
Zahide kurbanım hep bende kusur
Eğer anan seni bana verirse
Nemize yetmiyor bu el kadar hasır
Zahide, my all, what will happen to my bad condition?
Again I heard a gossip, I got dissapointed:
The people coming and going tell the news about you:
Zahide is going to get married this week
Tell me it is just joke, my heart
Have leaves of Çiçekdağı fallen?
I’ve gone around the world
I couldn’t find anybody more beautiful than my Zahide
I am a captured at abroad
Zahide, my dearest, all the faults are mine
If your mother let me marry to you
Isn’that little wicker enough to live together on ?

The lyrics tell the real story of a man: Aşık Arap Mustafa
While Mustafa was on his military duty he learnt that Zahide, the girl he loved so much, got married. With great pain in his heart, he wrote these lines.
Neşet Ertaş composed a song using these impressive words. One can recognize loneliness, grief, suffering, unattainable love, diffrent tastes of Anatolia in Neşet Ertaş’s composition. He is not only a singer but also speaker of all kinds of cultures and nations in Anatolia, because of that reason, he is loved both in Turkey and abroad. That’s why he was chosen as “living treasure”by UNESCO.
